This tool opens your microphone with the browser's getUserMedia API and measures the actual input level using a Web Audio analyser, so you can see whether your mic is picking you up before a call. The record-and-playback step catches the classic failure the level meter misses: a mic that registers signal but delivers distorted or wrong-device audio.
Everything happens locally: the audio stream and the recorded clip live only in this browser tab. Closing the page or pressing Stop releases the microphone, and the recorded clip is discarded — nothing is stored or transmitted.
First check the meter while speaking: a flat 0% means no signal at all. Confirm the browser has mic permission (lock icon in the address bar → Microphone → Allow), check the operating system's input device selection — on Windows, Settings → Sound → Input; on macOS, System Settings → Sound → Input — and make sure the correct mic is chosen in the device dropdown above, since laptops often have several.
